Architecture Committee 2011 Year End Report

It’s been a busy year, but much of what we set out to do has been accomplished.  (Some of the before and after pictures are shown below.)  As many of you know, Bay Scene was built back in the early ‘70s as the No.1 quality complex on Mission Bay and has maintained that position ever since. For the past two years, it’s been the job of the Architectural Committee to assist the board with various projects that have to do with design and appearance. We sincerely hope you’re pleased with the results.

Our main challenge has been the age of our complex. While considerable work has been done to update some of the interior areas over the years, much less attention was paid to the exterior of our buildings.  This was our principal focus during 2011. And through it all, we consider ourselves lucky to have a complex designed by Dan Salerno, our former Bay Scene resident and neighbor, and one of California’s foremost architects. From the standpoint of design, he has given us some very noteworthy buildings to work with.

As with any committee, the workload has come in peaks and valleys. Right now we’re in a relatively slow period where we can do some future planning and work to upgrade our clutter of Bay Scene signs. And while we try to view the entire complex on a regular basis, I’m sure there are some areas we may be missing. Please send us your thoughts and ideas by email so we can discuss them with the board.

Many thanks.
