BAY SCENE’S NEW LOOK

To Our Bay Scene Neighbors:

All of us at Bay Scene have spent a bundle over the years upgrading our interior and patio areas, but somehow our street side always seems to get overlooked. It’s unfortunate because studies by the National Association of Realtors show that the street side of a property is the one area that has the greatest impact on property values...both up and down.

With board approval at our last meeting, this situation is now about to change with a new look for our street side that’s also easy on our budget. Matt Schraner (who did the stonework in our patio) will be starting the demo work by removing the stucco on both the Bay Scene sign and portico. This requires using a loud demo saw and a grinder, so please bear with us for the next couple of days. It should be relatively quiet after that.

The posts of the portico are probably the most interesting and difficult part. We’ll be turning two skinny, stucco posts into eight-sided columns covered with natural slate tiles. It’s a complicated process that requires removing the stucco right down to the concrete core and replacing it with strips of Hardybacker (cement board) running the full height of the columns on all eight sides. (Matt will make a sample for board approval before going ahead.) Modern metal letters will be applied to both the sign and portico when all of the slate work has been completed.

If you have any questions on the process, please let me know. The whole job should take about a week and a half. I want this to be a well-run project that starts and stops on time and causes as little disturbance for our residents as possible.
