Construction on Gresham
Dear Bay Scene Residents:
I know that all the construction has been frustrating and now is even worse since we are having to close one of the two driveways while they lay pipe in the area of the closed driveway. This has affected EDCO’s ability to empty our dumpsters, so please be smart and break down boxes and find dumpsters with room in them because I don’t know when the trash/recycling will be emptied. It’s not just a matter of getting into the garage to bring the dumpsters to the street, it’s also having a place on the street to empty them.
There is light at the end of the tunnel to all the street repairs on Gresham and Pacific Beach in general. Melanie Stangle had a conversation with Kevin of SC Valley Engineering (the firm responsible for the sewer system work on Gresham) and learned the following:
About repaving Gresham...He said that the sewer line is a deeper line and was put in first. After it is finished, they will put a temporary base pavement over it. The next part of the project is the water main, which isn’t as deep. Once that’s done they will fully repave the street to look brand new. So yes they will be repaving all streets (including Gresham), but not right away.
Repaving Riviera is another thing. They have to tie in a new sewer system to the old system in that area that they call “the peninsula” which includes all of the north/south and east west streets. From what I understand part of the area is on the old system and part is on the new. Once it’s done, they WILL resurface Riviera.
Ingraham is part of a “Crown Point East” project being done by another contractor but he’s guessing they have the same situation and when their project is done they will resurface Ingraham.
There is also a Beach Moratorium from Memorial Day (end of May) to Labor Day (first of September), which will not allow for them to do any work during the summer. That is a City moratorium that they can’t control. He said they don’t get paid until the job is done, so they want to get it done as soon as possible!
I hope seeing the bigger picture helps everyone get through this. Please be patient and considerate.
Thank you;
