Proposed EV Charging Network
Bay Scene Homeowners:
I am pleased to inform you that Bay Scene has been approved for San Diego Gas & Electric’s (SDG&E’s) Power Your Drive Program for Condominiums and Apartments and is eligible for up to $234,000 to install 13 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the garage. More information on the program is available here: Power Your Drive. The following additional points are provided below to better inform homeowners on the program and what to expect:
Bay Scene does not have any extra power capacity to support the installation of the planned 13 EV charging stations, so the project will include an increase in power capacity from the street network funded (as part of the $234k), constructed, and provided by SDG&E and available through a separate meter.
The EV chargers will be owned by the HOA, but a portion (1/4 or 1/2) of their footprint (about one-square foot) would straddle certain parking spaces, selected to maximize the number of parking spaces covered by the 13 chargers. See attached brochure for a picture of the single port charger (CT4011) on page 4).
The preference is to locate pedestal-type single-port chargers (40 amp. with 23-foot cables) down the middle parking rows where maximum accessibility is possible (see proposed site plan, attached). A brochure showing the proposed EV charger type is also attached.
Note: The dual port charging station located behind the Tower 4 elevators will continue to be available to any residents that are not served by the new chargers.
Next Steps:
We need to move expeditiously to stay eligible for the program.
Infrastructure committee actions (Stan Mestman, Jim Gottlieb, Jay Glickman):
· Schedule an on-site meeting with SDG&E program personnel.
· Request bids from engineering firms to prepare planning, permitting, and construction documents to install the EV chargers.
Homeowners with parking spaces where the chargers are proposed to be located will be mailed an agreement giving permission to locate a portion (1/4 or 1/2) of an HOA-owned EV charger along the outer edge of their parking space.
Homeowners will then need to return the original of the signed/notarized agreement using the stamped/addressed letter provided in the mail. I will send out an email blast when the letters are sent so that you can anticipate them.
Finally:
We will provide additional information, such a project timeline when it becomes available, but we first need to lock down where the chargers are to be located. Since there are no common-owned parking spaces, we need applicable homeowners to return the agreement before we can move further into the program. Failure to get agreements will require a revised site plan for the chargers that will serve fewer parking spaces.
If necessary, we are considering holding a meeting of interested homeowners using Zoom, but before we determine if we need the meeting, please send me any questions that you have on the info provided thus far, keeping in mind we don’t have all the answers at this time.
This is a great opportunity for Bay Scene, but if we don’t move expeditiously, we will lose out on the funds to other condo and apartment complexes.
Sincerely;
Bob Citrano
