Break-In 2024-04-07
The following is a report from Bill Marsh on the Bay Scene security committee:
Early yesterday morning (April 6th at 3:18 AM), two men wearing hoodies, masks, gloves, and backpacks entered Bay Scene via the street entrance to Tower 1 using a fob that has since been deactivated. This highlights how important it is for residents to report a lost, misplaced, or stolen fob so it can be deactivated. You can do this by contacting the Menas property managers, or the security committee:
Bill Marsh (unit 111) at amarsh01@san.rr.com; or
Al Hamilton (unit 351) at Alandvicki3909@gmail.com
After gaining access, the perpetrators entered the garage and spent 1-¼ hours cherry-picking and cutting loose bikes to steal. Fortunately, they left three pre-staged bikes under a cover by the bike rack on the back side of the Tower 2 elevator (near the recycle bin). They can be seen cutting a child’s bike loose and even using a drill to loosen/disassemble the bike rack from the floor. They staged another bike by leaning it against a car near the maintenance shop in the far back of the garage. They are seen leaving the garage at 4:33 AM via the stairwell by the garage entrance. They can be seen (from the video) taking what looks to be a bright green men’s street bike (thin tires) with them.
These thefts were discovered around 7:00 PM last night when a resident discovered and then reported to Bill Marsh (Bay Scene security committee) his bike was missing; however, he later found his bike covered up and pre-staged by tower 2. Pictures of the two recovered bikes, along with a Razor scooter are attached.
[If they belong to you, please send an email to Bill Marsh.]
Further review of the video (2:45 AM on the same night) shows a man entering the south pool gate, after arriving by e-bike and using a fob assigned to a different unit (now also deactivated) to come in through the gate and enter the game room (probably to use the showers).
Please verify whether you have had a bike stolen, and if so, report it to the police. Again, residents are greatly encouraged to report lost fobs, and to inventory all bikes/property in the garage! If you don’t have your bikes locked using a good U-lock or better, then you are at great risk of eventually losing them!
