Safety Concerns: Trespassers
Over the past few weeks there have been an increasing number of trespassers onto our property in the very late night and early morning hours. Some of our residents have run into them and a few even accosted. When we had the bougainvillea cut down along the east bayside fence, this resulted in the unintended consequence of these new trespassers. Most likely, they are climbing up on the kayak racks, then over the fence. Now the word is out, so it can only get worse. The board will be contracting immediately with a welding company to increase the height of the pickets along the east side (and subsequently, most likely also the west side) of the fence to add raised, curved, pointed spikes, similar to the central area. However, obviously, this work will not get completed overnight. In the meantime, we recommend the following:
1. Keep the doors to your units locked overnight.
2. If you run into a trespasser, do not approach them; call the police. Remember, in the eyes of the law, they are only trespassing, so any violence against them could work against the resident.
3. If you are going to be in the pool area during the very late evening and early morning hours avoid going alone and carry a light with you. This might frighten them off if they see more than one person.
4. When expecting packages to be delivered, don’t let them sit in the lobby overnight. If you are not going to be home, ask a neighbor to pick yours up. Also, help out a neighbor and bring their packages up when you can.
In addition to being careful, please be patient with us. This board is striving to get the remaining portions of the bayside fence height raised as soon as possible (including the two gates), which should significantly reduce the number of trespassers; however, it is never physically possible to ensure we will never have anyone entering the property illegally. There are too many points of entry and too many persons going in and out.
Thank you for your patience,
Your Bay Scene Board of Directors
